The Beatles

Stuart Sutcliffe, a friend of John Lennon's, briefly played bass guitar for the band. It was he who suggested the name "The Beetles" in homage to Buddy Holly's band "The Crickets". It then became "The Silver Beetles". And then finally "The Beatles", perhaps a reference to "Beat Music".
