Nirvana

Previous Names: Skid Row, Pen Cap Chew, Bliss, Ted Ed Fred

The name Nirvana was eventually chosen by Kurt Cobain who explained "I wanted a name that was kind of beautiful or nice and pretty instead of a mean, raunchy punk name like the Angry Samoans". "Nirvana" describes the Buddhist achievement of transcendence of the cycle of rebirth and human suffering. After choosing the name, Kurt defined it to his bandmates as a word that describes the 'attainment of perfection'.
