Wilco

Wilco was formed after the breakup of the alt-country band Uncle Tupelo after that band's lead singer (Jay Farrar) quit. Jeff Tweedy and the rest of Uncle Tupelo decided to form a new band, and called it Wilco. The name Wilco comes from the combined abbreviated forms of "Will Comply" used in radio communication during World War II. The choice of name was an ironic one according to Tweedy, given the unconventional nature of the band.
