The Velvet Underground

Previous Names: The Warlocks, The Falling Spikes

A friend of the band introduced them to a book called "The Velvet Underground" by Michael Leigh about the sexual subculture of the early 1960s. Then drummer MacLise suggested the group adopt the book title as their name and the group unanimously agreed, feeling like it was evocative of "underground cinema" and fit their style.
