The origin is disputed:
Founding member Lol Creme confirmed a widely believed claim that 10cc represented an unusually large amount of male semen ejaculate, representing the bands potency.
Their producer at the time, Jonathan King, refutes this claim stating that he saw the name in a dream; the band stood in front of the Hammersmith Odeon in London and the billboard read "10cc The Best Band in the World".
