Abba

Previous Names: Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Anni-Frid

The name derives from the first letter of each of the four members: Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Originally they went by their full names, but that became unwieldy, and their manager started referring to them as Abba (which was also the name of a local fish canning company, which made it rather humorous). Before officially naming the band, they held a naming contest, in which names such as "Alibaba", "FABB" and "Baba" were suggested. But the group decided they liked Abba best. Often the band name is written stylized with the first B flipped horizontally - which the group has trademarked.
