Eagles

The name was originally suggested by Bernie Leadon during a group outing at the Mojave Desert while under the influence of peyote and tequila and discussing the Hopi tribe's reverence for eagles. The name is also a tribute to another California-based band "The Byrds". Comedian Steve Martin recalled in his book "Born Standing Up" of his time at The Troubadour in Los Angeles: "One night I was lingering at the bar and talking to Glenn Frey, who was just leaving his duo, Longbranch Pennywhistle. He said he was considering a name for his new five-man group. "What is it?" I said. He said, "Eagles." I said, 'You mean, The Eagles?" and he said, "No, Eagles."
